Massimo Vignelli – Best known for designing the brand identity for American Airlines and the New York subway system signage has died at his home in New York City early this week.
Vignelli Started off as an architect and then took the path into different forms of design. When it came to design – he was the jack of all trades. Houseware design, package design, public signage, to showroom design. He did it all.
In his long journey as a designer – in time he became the head of design at knoll. There he worked with his predecessor, Herbert Matter which was a wonderful designer in his own right. At knoll, Herbert became the photographer of – what have become – leading catalogues for furniture manufacturers.
Vignelli once said..
“If you can design one thing, you can design everything.”
