This past weekend I went to visit the hammer in west wood to check out Maya Hayuk’s work. Her paintings are always huge and filled with a variety of shapes and lines in vibrant colors. Though most of her work is very solid and flat she adds a little black here and there to give the work some depth. I wish I would have taken a better photo of the painting below. It’s hard to see – but within the black triangular shapes she had tiny speckles of white which made me feel like I was peeping out at space.
The painting below was very fun to look at. I enjoyed trying to figure out which layers were painted before others. Another nice touch was that some of the painted lines were less opaque than others so you could see lines intersect each other. When looking closer there were many small details that called for croppable moments! They easily could have been something of their own.
The work will be shown until Jan 26th of next year if you’re interested in viewing her work in person. Chow!
