Creative Update 15

Hi All –

Guest Editor here today. For my update, I decided to go with an LA theme. Hope you enjoy these little gems as much as I do! J

Eats
A Handy Guide to LA’s Best Ramen Shops – Ramen is delightful anytime of the year, even in the heat of summer! More and more shops are opening up around the city so no need to fight the downtown traffic getting to Little Tokyo for your Ramen fix. http://la.eater.com/

Jonathan Gold’s 99 Essential LA Restaurants – An oldie but a goody. Even though Jonathan Gold has moved on to the LA Times, there’s nothing like waiting for his lists of essential LA restaurants. If you’re like me, conquering this list is a competitive sport; alas, I’ve never broken double digits. http://www.laweekly.com/2011-11-10/eat-drink/jonathan-gold-s-99-essential-l-a-restaurants-2011/

Surfas – To cook all the yummy recipes that have been shared; head over to Surfas in Culver City. This place is a cook’s paradise, whatever the type of equipment or gadget – if you need it, they probably have it. I can spend all day (and all my money) here. http://www.surfaslosangeles.com/

Explore
Secret Stairs – Cars are so synonymous with LA that we forget once upon a time people walked to get around town. Back when LA was being developed, city planners installed staircases to help get people living in hillside homes down to public transit stops. Even though these staircases aren’t used as an everyday method of transportation anymore, they are hidden gems that offer a glimpse of how the city came to be and the architecture and views you see on these routes are amazing – a great workout for the glutes too! http://www.secretstairs-la.com/welcome.html

Climbing LA – If you’re interested in checking out the places listed in the book, this brave pair conquered all 42 walks! http://climbingla.blogspot.com/

Music/Art
Who Shot Rock & Roll at the Annenberg Space for Photography, June 23 – October 7, 2012 – An amazing Rock & Roll history lesson through some of music’s most iconic photos. Get to the Annenberg early to watch the documentary which features interviews with both photographers and artists. Free to get in and only a $1 to park on the weekends! http://www.annenbergspaceforphotography.org/exhibitions/current-exhibition

Meiko – Hotel Café alum and LA based Meiko recently released her sophomore album, a fun little ditty great for summer which I have currently on repeat. http://meikomusic.com/

Hotel Café – You also can’t go wrong with the music showcased at the Hotel Café; some other notable alums include Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson and Joshua Radin (who also just came out with a great new album). http://www.hotelcafe.com/

DIY
Not LA based but I recently got a sewing machine and have been on a DIY kick. These are two neat blogs that show you how to take stuff you already have and upcycle it into something new and fashionable.
P.S. I Made This – http://psimadethis.com/
I Spy DIY – http://www.ispydiy.com/

Have a great weekend everyone!

Regards,
